The Undiscovered & The Guardian

The Guardian Logo

The Guardian is a British daily newspaper that eventually came to the United States. It was first founded on May 5, 1821 as The Manchester Guardian by John Edward Taylor. For this local United Kingdom newspaper company to achieve national and international recognition is amazing! To actually make achieve that kind of recognition is a huge deal for a growing company like The Guardian. This is how The Undiscovered has hope towards all of their artists. With knowing the right people, anything can happen. However, just because this company has been successful doesn't mean it's hasn't had it's ups and downs.

In today's society, newspaper companies are becoming more rare. The actual tangible newspapers are extremely thin compared to what they used to be when I was growing up. The media has changed all of this. Newspaper companies started to become more online based instead of print. The Guardian is one of those companies that is focusing on more of the online aspect rather than the offline. A couple days ago, I was researching something for a class and I went to The Guardian's website to read an article. What I noticed during that time I was reading it, there was a section at the bottom of the screen that was taken up by a separate paragraph that looked different from all the others. Below is a screenshot that I took after reading one of The Guardian's articles, which inspired me to write this post.

The Guardian | Since you're here...

Since more and more people are starting to read the news online, the more people The Guardian's website is attracting. As well as having more of these individuals read content and pay nothing for it. The Guardian isn't like all the other newspaper websites like The New York Times. Times uses a paywall method. That means that if you want access to the information, you have to pay a certain amount of money first. This is so that they have the money to produce the content that their readers are wanted to be informed of. For college students who are trying to save money, reading The Times isn't a luxury that they can't have. With The Guardian, things are different because they're independent. They use their own money to produce what they post on their site. In closing, The Guardian needs help with money to continue to produce the content that readers are wanting, but are asking for help from their true fans at the price that they're willing to pay.
